Had a short stint of blogging with some fellow friends a lil’ while ago.. But somehow they weren’t the blogger type, hence, it all came to a halt.
However, still think the post I made back then’s worth a repost..so here it is..
Mind the paragraphs sticking together, as this is a copy and paste job, i’ll need to take some time to sort that out..
After months, weeks, days and hours of tweeting from the both web and the mobile (thanks to fellow tweeter pathew), twitter or tweeting has now become part of my virtual life. Can never think of a day that I get online without checking out my twitter, even when on the move, I’ll get check my tweets on mobile. Could be just a hype… oh well time will tell…
For those who are already on Twitter, well good for you keep Tweeting.
While as for those who are new to Twitter or Tweeting altogether, well its probably time for you to check it out, Twitter.com.
Twitter basically is a form of mini blog. Why a mini blog you may think, well its simple, in these days of hectic lifestyle be it at work, school or so forth, many might still wanna try their hands on blogging or sharing information with their friends or even people from around the world but they do not have the time for it. Maybe they do, but just a little, hence, now they can mini blog it in the form of Tweets in Twitter. Tweets are short messages, status messages, or speak-of-mind not exceeding 140 characters. With these people are able to share information, status, or even wherabouts with people who subcribe to them as a channel of information (in Twitter language we call them Followers).
So similar to blogging, Twitter is a form of Social Media. Before you think of what 140 characters of postings could do? Well, I can tell you Twitter is no SMALL thing. Everyday people like you and me would probably use it for mere communication, however in professional level people uses it as part of their Damage Control process. Do a google on South West Airlines, Coke, Ford Motors and Twitter, and you’ll find out. Here’s a sample article to prove my say… ‘For Companies, A Tweet In Time Can Avert A PR Mess‘ courtesy of the Wall Street Journal Online.
Anyway, are you getting enthusiastic about Twitter yet? Well if you are….Read on…
Wondering how should you start? Simple…
Click on ‘Sign Up Now‘ and simply key in your Full Name, your Username (come’ on be creative, pick a cool one), your preffered Password, your Email address and last but not least, to avoid bots and electronic spammers, type the secret code as per depicted before clicking ‘Create My Account‘.
Once you are signed up, get yourself logged in and start exploring. Well, I must say there’s isn’t much features to explore made available, but for starters, you can try changing to your preferred background theme, put up your own avatar, or write a brief intro about yourself and so forth.
Also, you would be surprise how many of your friends/idols/companies/clubs/bodies and etc etc are already Tweeting…. by searching for them. Once you found them, simply click on their nick, which will bring you to their Twitter page, and there you should just click ‘Follow’. Then now you are Following them. Any Tweets they post will then appear on your Twitter page. And if they ‘Follow’ you in return, your Tweets will appear on theirs. So that’s how communication happens.
Anyway here are some simple tips…
To Tweet, simply type your short message of no more than 140 characters and click ‘Submit’.
To Reply a Tweet, simply click on a turn-around arrow on the lower right corner of your peers’ tweets. Don’t see it?… Well it’ll appear when you mouse is within their Tweet boxes. Once clicked, you’ll notice a “@ ” appearing on your message box, then just type you replies after it, and click ‘Submit’.
To Forward someone’s Tweet (or Re-Tweet or RT), simply copy your peers’ Tweet message and paste it on your Tweet box, and add an ‘RT @’ in front of it all and click ‘Submit’
To Tweet a URL, simply just copy the URL and paste it on your message box, maybe add some description and click ‘Submit’. But beware, only 140 characters at a time.
To Tweet with a Picture, simply sign in at Twitpic.com and whatever pictures you posted there will appear on your Twitter page as your posting. The fun part here is, you don’t have to be doing it only on Twitpic, instead, you can post pics from your email and even your mobile as you’ll be given a twit-based email address.
To Start a Tweet Discussion, it’s simple, simply add a key word (ala name of discussion) with a ‘#’ in front for it, for example #about_tweeting, #mydog, and so forth.
So I guess, by now you should have some picture of How Simple Tweeting Can Be?….
